Congratulations to DJ Eugene and Samantha Webster!

Pioneer Malaysian DnB maestro, director of Tempo Events (Regenerate), and sceneshaper partly responsible for the Movement’s legendary influence on Malaysian music - DJ Eugene Lim - has recently gotten married to the lovely noisemaker, environmentalist, and Utopian dame, Samantha Webster.

We at FoundationKL.org would like to extend our heartfelt wishes and rauchy, disturbing thoughts to a wonderful future together, and to a steamy honeymoon.

After which I’ll go back to bugging him for a mix.

CONGRATULATIONS!

REST IN PEACE - Disco D

On Monday, the 22nd of January 2007, one of the most talented DJs and producers - Disco D - took his own life. He was 27 years old.

A longtime sufferer of depression and bi-polar disease, I guess it just got too much. But I’m happy that the probable pain he’s gone through is over.

Ken and myself used to listen to his Live in Paris mix while driving. Its raw, unfiltered beats, heartfelt turntablism, and genuine passion for the music led me to understand that as long as your passionate about something, no matter how obscure, you’ll eventually lead people to understand. The Paris mix is a classic example of how a St. Louis suburban can educate an entire city. Pure inspiration that drove me to start this project, always remembering Disco D’s presence and determination.

We dedicate the mixes for the month of January to his memory.

Disco D’s myspace page - leave a message from us.

So please - if any of you guys are suffering from bi-polar disorder or depression (like me) or even SUSPECT you have it. GET HELP. You are not judged here - this I promise you.

FoundationKL.org Domain Extended for 2 more years!

I’ve extended the domain name which was going to expire in February. Why? Because we are on a roll.

So far we have scheduled mixes and singles for almost every day until next month as well as taking on more and more amazing talent (and there is just SO much of it).

We have also crossed the 15,000 distinct-hosts-served mark - which is bloody incredible. That figure is a tally of all our domains combined as well as the FoundationKL.org site. Day by day, a simple googling of ‘FoundationKL.org’ is collecting more and more positive feedback from blogs and forums all over the ‘net.

AND EVEN WITH THIS - WE ARE NOT SELLING ADVERTISING SPACE. GO TO JUICE INSTEAD

Congratulations.
WE ARE ON A MUTHERF*CKING ROLL!

[FKL] DJ Define - Full Spectrum

define.jpg
DJ Define, a prominent torchbearer of the KL breakbeat and brokenbeat scene, has submitted us a mix that will funk up your iPod till the muthaf*cker breaks.

Define has also played support for Soul Of Man, founder of leading UK breakbeat label, Finger Lickin’ Records in 2004 as well as making appearances at the December 05 and 04 Full Moon Party in Koh Pha Ngan, Thailand.

Today, Define plays a pivotal organizational role in the upandcoming Bongo! nights at Muse (in which FKL are very much in support of!). So if you swing on by the Muse - make sure you hook up with this comrade.

[FKL][Forbidden Fruit] DJ D’arcy - Jungle Revelations

untitled1.jpg

DJ D’arcy, promoter and DJ for the prolific Forbidden Fruit nights in England’s South West, has emerged out of all places, Kuala Lumpur. And you all get a download too. Rock.

Traveling the world as a pioneering DJ and promoter, D’arcy has organized and played at some really exotic locations. He played the 1st ever house night in Lahore, Pakistan with Ibiza’s Mambo resident Matthew Charles, and has lived, played, and promoted in Dubai, Sant Rafael, Sydney, and currently, Malaysia.

Entering the scene at the end of the ’90s, Darcy is known for pounding out technical-infusions of funky house, edgy electro stabs, and snarling disco screams.

We were fortunate to come across this DJ in the midst of his wanderlust, and with the help of Kamo, have managed to convince him to feature his mixes with us.

[DOWNLOAD BUMPER FRIDAYS!] Free Singles from Audiotrixx / CbellJ / Schmerz!

FRIDAY BUMPER! LOTS OF MP3 SINGLES FOR EXPLOITATION! MARI MARI! DOWNLOAD DOWNLOAD!

I wonder if a headline like that works. Anyway:

trixx.jpg

Audiotrixx, the production / audio engineering arm of the DBCO crew has graced us with a delicious visit back into jungle intensity blended with the new jazz-school sensibilities of modern drum and bass. Visions of Jungle squeezes itself between the hard breaks sounds of more vintage ‘90s junglism on a wailing New York bebop high carved out along lines of glitch and intelligent cuts.

Kamo inform me that this was produced before he went off for formal production training; terrified?

cebll.jpg

CbellJ has also been hard at work in his Sarawak studio churning out a surprising bootleg fusing the glambowieish Placebo with the aggressive technicalities of german-Schranz.

Angry demon beats with mascara and Brian Molko; terrified?

Tribal Ward is yet another production from CBellJ with a delicious tribal direction reminiscent of earlier Luke Slater and Christian Vogel.

Man - I think we might be hosting one of the angriest Sarawakians ever.

Hardstyle has allot of appeal to my more minimalistic-side. But Geelonger Schmerz has truly outdone himself with a series of productions have seem to have more in common with acid techno than the boring-ass hardstyle floating around on the’net. (Someone prove me wrong)

We’ve also managed to hijack almost all the Geelong DJs - so you’ll be hearing much more of them in future bumpers.

THANK GOD ITS FUCKING FRIDAY! NOW GO FUCKING MIX ME A SET!

[FKL] Radzy - Back Home (January) Mix

Radzy glides back into FKL with a new mix exploring his new found zen acquired on his travels to the Green Spirit (Krabi) and Full Moon (Koh Phan Ngan) festivals.

New Single from Kamo: ‘Otori’ with DBCO, Bongo!, The Works

suffbw.jpg Kamo from the DBCO collective, and one of the organizers of the up and coming Bongo! Nights at Muse has recently submitted a single for your listening pleasure.

“Influenced by a series of fantasy novels set in a fictional feudal Japan, Otori sees Kamo tapping into his Asian roots, with a nod to the oldschool jungle/drum n bass sound. His first “properly thought out” dnb track, it’s a deep, rolling tune with uplifting strings, steady beats and a minimal bassline.” ~ Suffian, January.

Otori - Kamo (Promo Single)

We stumbled onto the DBCO collective and Bongo! Bootleg after tracking the movements of Assault and Battery, winners of a Pioneer competition a couple of years ago. Since then, Basil aka Battery, has been working closely with Irman aka Spacebar and Suffian aka Kamo, as well as undergrounders like Beatmonkey, DJ Define, Mac. Who have, in an a huge exodus, differentiated themselves from Loops Collective to form their own big sound.

bongojan13.jpg
Since then, we’ve been blown away by the quality of musicianship with all the producers and DJs associated with that clique.

Members of ‘The Works’, Shinji and Hanif, two of the most promising progressive hip hop representatives have recently demonstrated their technique to me, with Hanif via his 1-day production mastery and Shinji via his unconventional, ego-free rhymes. I walked home with my mouth catching insects. They have also promised to submit stuff to Foundationkl.org in the near future.

Additionally, longtime member of the ultra-underground, Beatmonkey have recently resurfaced. Stretched flat with his extremely tight schedule designing automobile aspects, he has also agreed to submit stuff in the near future.

We will definitely be tracking that.

Heaven Next Door - Welcome to 2007!

Clubbing in KL doesn’t cut it anymore –

gsintro.jpg

Imagine a place free from the following:

  • The dumb political game played with promoters, sponsors, advertising agencies, artists, and artist agencies.
  • A dance culture that dictates what you should and shouldn’t do, how one should dress, behave, even dance.
  • High budget venues filled with fog machines, lasers, and stupidity that only seeks to annoy and obfuscate.

Seems impossible? Absolutely not. And to my surprise – it’s only right next door.

Our trip to Thailand has been an incredible one. Of course, we’re not totally free from the bounds of the commercial dance market, but the Green Spirit Festival sure came close.

I personally found a peace that I could not acheive here in the dreadful dance culture of KL. Now I know why thesuperglo is so zen.
gs1.jpg
It was good not to be judged for who I was or where I came from. And it was also very good to meet and make friends with the international hippy community. My heart goes out to them all.

Anyway – welcome back to FoundationKL.org 2007 is going to be a massive and incredible year for all of us here!

We distributed all our mixes currently hosted on the site to every interested party that we had come across in our travels. So fingers crossed and we might be in Thailand yet again to see one of our artists play!

And if your interesting in viewing our full adventure - you can proceed to our photo gallery!

A huge shout out to the Aussies Matty Moon and Brooke – who were both awesome friends, and great hosts to the united world of Psytrance. Doof on my friends, doof on!
