[FKL-ONESHOTS] Ben Katana VS Bryan Burger - Live @ Twisted (21st August 2007)

Uncompromising Electro Heroes

benvbryan.jpg

Ben Katana and Bryan Burger, two of the finest 1st generation Kuala Lumpur DJ’s have both left a serious dent on the psyche’s of Malaysia’s dance music generation.

Both DJ’s have held court at the legendary club, Movement, in the heart of Kuala Lumpur - playing screamingly hard techno to bleary-eyed punters clinging to the walls only to get pounded flat into the concrete. And it’s pretty safe to say that these two, have pretty much kept it real: right up till now.

benbryan.jpg

Ben Katana - one of the earliest proponents of electro-clash in Malaysia, played Tiga’s ‘I Wear My Sunglasses at Night’ to a virgin crowd during Regenerate 02 back in the early ’00s, ushering a new age of electro-house and trashy dressing to an otherwise techno-bred scene.

Bryan Burger, headmaster of the Royale DJ Academy, and boss of Excessive Records, introduced German-influenced techno and minimalism to the melting pot. Now, with the Hawtin-esque Ray Soo, continue to inform the scene with their flagship nights, Hotel Scandalos.

And it is our great pleasure, that FoundationKL presents to you a solid back to back mix with two of our favorite DJs.

[FKL][Flava] Zaskar, Irwan and Boy - Sessions @ The Loft

Four parts DIRTY beats + 1 big bag of Flava

flava3.jpg

This massive 4-part mix comes courtesy of the Flava crew, represented by our man, Zaskar. Along with DJ Boy and DJ Irwan, they performed deliciously compact crowd @ the Loft on the 23rd of August as part of the Sessions series of events.

flava1.jpg

Massive props to the crew for putting this very vérité mix up. It looks like (and sounds like) everyone had allot of fun that night! Always a good thing!

Zaskar, who puts together the 2nd part of this mix drops some Ping and Oxia - adding his signature technicalities to the mix. Very nice.

Also, Zaskar was a finalist for Juice magazine’s DJ Quest. Congrats Zaskar, hard work pays off. PERIOD.

[FKL] Pascal Dupuy - Sundrops: Funk La Sapien

Vinyl Envy

funke.jpg

I love starting the Monday’s with a nice positive mix from the sunshine empire’s embassador, Pascal Dupuy.

This pleasant spread proclaims a breaks / house sound comprised of some of the most tasty vinyl pieces from the American continent. I mean, where are you ever going to find “Activate” by the Goodfellas? or “Temptations” - C-Vaughn & J-Virtue? And where are you gonna find such a natural flow like Pascal’s?

But it seriously begs to ask, if the Vol. 6 & 7 mixes are so solid - where’s Vols. 1 - 5?

Pascal? Care to take the question?

Foundationkl.org presents:

Pascal Dupuy - Sundrops Vol 7: “Funk La Sapien”
-tracklisting-

1. “Step Back” - Ursula 1000 (deekline & ed solo remix)

5. “Activate” - Goodfellas
6. “Baddest DJ” - Shimano

Tenori-On - Wow

First Reason 4…

Now this:

Halp. I’m broked.

Black Days : Shakedown

I’ve gotten some pretty upsetting emails, and I’ve gotten some words of support.

The thing that pissed me off the most is one particular person asking if he was going to get PAID to be a writer: what about NON-PROFIT organization do you not understand?

We’re a community of a cause bigger than ourselves. What the hell is wrong with you and why should I not confiscate your space and ban you from the site? You know who you are.

This goes for a few of you who have taken advantage of our resources for far too long. Radzy, thesuperglo, and myself will be evaluating your activities since joining, and we are going to start de-activating accounts that we feel are not contributing to the overall philosophies of this site. Starting with the inactive users.

No more leechers. Time for a shakedown.

The some of you, EJ, Pascal, CbellJ, the Geelong Boys, Blastique, #4, The Bongo and Loops Collective team, Pascal, D’arcy, Damien K, Sirius and my dear friends thesuperglo and Radzy; you guys - don’t worry.

Everyone else better start leaving their goddamned petitions for space in the comments. I’ve had enough. I don’t care if your some fucking giant DJ in some superclub in Ibiza or the son of some politician. You are not immune.

This is the Foundation. Now we shake it to its core.

We de-activate spaces by Monday. Act fast.

[UPDATED] JK Steps Back: Hunting for a new FKL writer!

Hi guys,

Sorry for the lack of updates recently, but we’ve all been very busy:

Ken just got married (yay)
Radzy’s musical career is booming (yay)
and … well I am going through some pretty big self discoveries (yay)

Updating the site, working with the artists, tracking numbers, search engine optimization, and pushing for really REALLY good music is a time consuming task, and something that I’ve enjoyed immensely since we started off as a tiny forum, and now a respectible representation of all that is the DJ underground on a planetary scale.

With that I’d like to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for all the support in helping us achieve this success.

However. I need a break guys.

We are looking for someone who is passionate enough to take over the running of the FKL blog and the day to day operations of the site - what’s the benefit to you?

Resume Building
You get to work with some of the best talents in the planet.
You will learn online promotion skills and channel marketing skills in order to drive traffic.
Search engine optimization will become second nature to you.
Information organizational skills.
Advanced future thinking and advice from some of the most ‘clued-into’ the DJ/Production industries, on a global level.
Web 2.0 technologies, execution, and implementation.

If you are interested in filling up this position (as daunting as it may seem) send us a resume and the three of us will train you on all you need to know to become a successful editor for FKL. Drop me an email at jk(at)foundationkl.org and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

Once that happens, my role with FKL will be purely top-level - we need to get bigger deals, we need to chase for bigger possibilities, and I cannot do any of that if I have to update our wonderful blog constantly. Not to mention our upcoming FoundationZero.org global launch which is being planned for January.

So help us out guys. And thanks for understanding.

Namaste.

John Kuan

It’s amazing that we’ve made it this far. EJ, one of the original members of the FKL program has certainly come a long, long way with her musical evolution.

A mature and methodical sound lined with electro-soulstylin tunes from astraglide, indart, and even a closing with the esteemed danny tenaglia. Lovely.
