Our boy Pascal a.k.a Dj Möet brings a little retrospection this time around with Look Ma, No Headphones that revisits some of the sounds that have influenced him over the years.
Drawing inspiration from straight and broken beats alike, Möet creates a visage that tapers between big ballsy funk and deep, hypnotic cuts. And boy does it take you back!

Music in Leipzig, Germany may conjure up thoughts of classical composers like Richard Wagner and Johann Sebastian Bach to those steeped in tradition, but what many may not know is that Leipzig has a burgeoning scene of electronic pioneers and innovators with a penchant for blistering analogue bass belches, decimated high hats, and industrial snare hits. Aura Kamikura, aka Janina Otto, and the Global Noise Movement, are amongst those leading the way.
I think the DJ and producer, explains her take on music best in her own words: I find it admirable that this scene is so wide: from techno to trance, from breakbeats to industrial and rhythmic noise. So I never can make a strict decision what to play. My sets differ from hard breaks, dark d`nb to industec, electro and rhythmic noise and also idm. Despite of this I would name everything which is produced with nous and sense as “intelligent dance music.”

Audio Response21 sees Rhys Byron churning out an eclectic blend of electro, funk and soul, moulded into one cohesive unit of pure aural gratification.
“As a general rule anything by Fred Falke or Breakbot will get a rinsing over here and neither of them disappoint this week with their latest offerings. But my favorite tune this week is ‘Safari’ by La Mode for the funnest, funkiest, dirtiest break i’ve heard this year. I cannot wait to play this one out…” - Rhys Byron
Rhys, who shares the weekly Audio Response show with our boy D’Arcy, can be heard every Sunday night at 10PM on Bay FM 99.9 for those in North NSW and online via the Audio Response weblog. Theta Rhythms: One of several characteristic electroencephalogram (EEG) waveforms associated with various sleep and wakefulness states of the brain, between 4 and 8 Hz and involve many neurons firing synchronously in the hippocampus and through the cortex. These rhythms are associated with spatial navigation and some forms of memory and learning, especially in the temporal lobes.
The Rhythm In Theta
First of all “Made In Theta” is not going to make you sleep. Not by a long shot. In fact, it sucks at making anyone sleep.
Why? Because it’s Vidda Vein returning to The Foundation with this astounding amalgamation of deep-electro-tech-funk awesomeness that takes the listener from floor-filling mosh mayhem to vivid dream-like introspection and hypnotism. And then blowing the roof and most of your clothes / brains off.
A veteran of the club scene, large-format outdoor music festivals, and everything in between, DJ Smoke knows how to work a crowd through an arc of funky, dirty, grimey beats and make your body rock to electro and bounce to disco. You annoying hackers thought you could shut us out? The Foundation? We’ve only got one thing to say:
Get Outta Here!
After months of chasing, pleading, crying and threatening, Dj Define finally returns to FKL! As one of KL’s well known breakbeat exponents, the boy lays out an impressive body of work this time around with ‘Outta Here’ .
Featuring some sweet, funky Nu-Skool tunage from the likes of Jaymo, Dj Icey, Stanton Warriors, Beat Assassins and good ol’ Krafty Kuts, Define takes us all on a journey with this progressively structured mixset, building slow, steady and almost minimalistic before pounding us all at the end with, what is probably, Lot 49’s most pivotal release of 2007 - Trevor Lovey’s rework of 30hz’s ‘Daddio’ .

Hailing from the part of the United States that Bugs Bunny always made a wrong turn at on his way to the beach, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Chris Kaltenbach, aka Silence, certainly knows his way around a mix set. Sirius is baaaaaaaaaaack with a delectable dabble into the dark side of breaks…
If you like your music funky, grindy, gritty, grimey with some crunkin-crankin electro bass
then Sirius has got the junk to move your trunk this weekend.
Our Foundation brother has us bound for a memorable boogie night that features the work of B-Phreak and DJ Fixx, as well as some cameos by some of the cream of the A-list Breaks producers including Freestylers, Autobots, Drumattic Twins, Plump DJs, and Deekline & Wizard. This set could easily be titled “Best Breaks of our Day.” On the personal, Sirius I particularly applaud your dropping in that Future Funk Squad track… They are a great group and don’t get enough attention in my humble opinion… Oh yeah… hehehe, “Here in my Car…” Whaaaaat?!

Ableton Live whiz-kid, Blastique, returns from a long hiatus here on FKL with one hell of mixset to kick start the week. And in typical fashion, the listener is assaulted right from the get go with a plethora of rocking-bass-funking-madness as the boy rips out a barrage of multi-layered tracks, stitched with a surgical precision that would make any Nip/Tuck surgeon cream his pants. Not to mention plenty of live, on-the-fly SFX manipulations and sampling.

Sirius has been holed up in his lab during one of the most brutal winters in Buffalo’s recent history and, after much hounding, has given us a little teaser of what he has brewing…
An Illectic Teaser
This quick mixset seduces with the opening track by Melleefresh & Deadmau5 , then a punchy bass-driven follow through with Drumattic Twins remixing Deibeat leads into one of my favorite Breaks producers, also from upstate New York, DJ Fixx. Sirius had to represent the home team… Sirius’ track selection guides us logically to a chunky, dirty, electro-tech grand finale with none othern that DJ Dan and Speculum.
Like the subtle storm that rolls in over a city at night, this set balances the expected with flashes of inspired nuance that makes it pure Sirius. As usual Sirius, takes through a mind-explosive journey of aural bliss… Can’t wait to hear the full-length mix he’s promised to drop on us next time…
Pascal aka DJ Möet
