[FKL] No.4 - Buried Beneath the Plastic Sheen

No. 4 is Static Itch

Virulent Seduction

When my fellow FKL editor Raj, aka No. 4, aka Static Itch decides to do a mix, I never know what to expect, but I always know that it will challenge my sense of musical programming, and inspire with the coscienceness of his track selection. “Buried Beneath the Plastic Sheen” plays like a mixtape and has the feel of a soundtrack… And in the same way, it will imbue whatever you’re doing while listening to it with that sense of surreal intensity that only a great soundtrack can.

It starts off meditative with Jim Johnston’s interpretation of The Undertaker, winds through the mind with Massive Attack and Bong Ra, and suddenly you realize it’s too late as the aural trip nectar drives through your senses with Marco Beltrami vs. Marilyn Manson! The pathway of the programming is cutting and hypnotic, all at once sharp and sensual, as it goes from the blazing brain-bleeding bass of IDM to down-tempo groovin’.
Take a listen and enjoy the ride!

[FKL] Shutter Effect… Greg Wilkinson on FoundationKL

Dirty, Funking, Electro - Tribal…

Heads up Foundation KLers, it is my pleasure to present Greg Wilkinson.
Co-founder of online radio station Static Progress, Greg has thirteen years experience in the underground scene, and has a real passion for electronic music. Between 1995 and 2001 Greg graced the decks in Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg, South Africa, as well as London, playing everything from the 60s, 70’s and modern commercial club hits to trance. Moving to San Diego, California in 2001, Greg became exposed to the various forms of house, breaks and drum n’ bass.

With this revelation he reinvented himself, and nowadays his sets have moved on to electro house with a deep, hard and moody progressive edge. Currently he can be found spinning in some of San Diego’s top clubs like On Broadway and Crudo’s.
“Programming is what sets DJ’s apart from each other, I do not want to sound like the other progressive DJ’s by playing the same tracks,” says Greg.

Shutter effect cover art

Shutter Effect is an exclusive set provided for FKL! With a roster of the likes of Amesz & Gelderblom, Fedde la Grand, Micky Slim, and Elroy & Tom Piper feat. Gabriella Abela on his set, Greg certainly expresses his individual taste and view on bringing the groove… Enjoy!

[FKL] DJ Rasul - Feb 08 Promo

A Little Trance-migration.

While Dj Rasul might be a fresh face here on FKL, he is by no means a newbie to the world of Dance music and Dj-ing. A student of Jeremy K, Rasul got his first break at Lavish, playing hard-trance. Since then, the boy has been stamping his mark all over Melbourne with gigs at venues like Madisons, Equinox and Gravity Bar. His current residency is at Seven, where patrons are treated to a weekly dose of electro and minimal tech.

His first mix here on FKL is definitely an engaging one. An ethereal blend of trance, electro and minimal with a very progressive sensibility, featuring the likes of Luke Chable, Deadmau5, Hiroyuki Oda and Andrea Doria.

Boys and Girls, give it up for Dj Rasul.

[FKL-ONESHOTS] Ben Katana VS Bryan Burger - Live @ Twisted (21st August 2007)

Uncompromising Electro Heroes

benvbryan.jpg

Ben Katana and Bryan Burger, two of the finest 1st generation Kuala Lumpur DJ’s have both left a serious dent on the psyche’s of Malaysia’s dance music generation.

Both DJ’s have held court at the legendary club, Movement, in the heart of Kuala Lumpur - playing screamingly hard techno to bleary-eyed punters clinging to the walls only to get pounded flat into the concrete. And it’s pretty safe to say that these two, have pretty much kept it real: right up till now.

benbryan.jpg

Ben Katana - one of the earliest proponents of electro-clash in Malaysia, played Tiga’s ‘I Wear My Sunglasses at Night’ to a virgin crowd during Regenerate 02 back in the early ’00s, ushering a new age of electro-house and trashy dressing to an otherwise techno-bred scene.

Bryan Burger, headmaster of the Royale DJ Academy, and boss of Excessive Records, introduced German-influenced techno and minimalism to the melting pot. Now, with the Hawtin-esque Ray Soo, continue to inform the scene with their flagship nights, Hotel Scandalos.

And it is our great pleasure, that FoundationKL presents to you a solid back to back mix with two of our favorite DJs.

[FKL] Victor G - March and July Promo Mixes

THURSDAY DOUBLESHOT: Victor G

Rock. Victor G; check out these awards (taken from his Myspace) -

On September 2003, Victor participated and won first place in the Heineken Juice Magazine DJ Quest. One year later, he bagged another trophy by winning the 2004 Vestax Extravaganza DJ competition mixing category and the Pioneer Digital DJ Battle 2004 and 2005 championship and recently the Pioneer Digital DJ Battle Asian championship 2006

Amping up his appearances on the KL circuit, Victor’s brand of house satisfies the mass-ready, large room sounds that have been taking dominance. We’ve since invited him to appear on FKL, we’re looking forward to tracking this guy’s movements through the internet.

This twin-mix from his March and July promo mixes set up some massive sounds for some groove action. Great for the slide into the weekend. So without further ado…

[FKL] DJ Define - That Level

ANNOUNCEMENT

Ehem. Dear FoundationKL.org visitors,

We experienced several technical and functional situations over the weekend period. Our servers were almost compromised, however, the front page was the only thing that got scrambled. Note that D’arcy’s post is missing (we did a rollback).

We will have that hunky ladylover D’arcy back up as soon as we can.

But I think it was the SG Government trying to supress D’arcy’s RUGGED ENGLISH CHARMS. Fight the system Rob. Our hearts are with you in these difficult times.

AAAaaaannneewayyy…

After MONTHS of chasing, pleading, and finally admitting to him that his DJ Define dominance on Google was soon to be compromised - the pressure has finally broken.

DJ Define has returned.

This time, with a sound that throws right off the rails into his chunkier breaks sound; a analog, scathing, electrobreaks chant bleeding sex.

I can hear Sirius Break’s pupils dilate.
